Design your own project
Project Decription:
To begin this process I started by choosing the picture I wanted to use (far left). I then put it into photoshop and put a filter on it that made in into three layers, white, black, and gray (middle left). I printed this photoshopped version on three different pieces of cardstock, so that I would be able to cut it out and it would be sturdy. I used an x-acto knife so that I could cut very precisely. I started with just cutting the grey out and then the black on another piece and then the white (middle right). Originally I wanted to spray paint it red, yellow, and blue but I ended up doing it three shades of blue and I think that it didn't turn out too bad (far right). The only program I used during this whole process was photoshop. When we were all close to finishing we did a class critique this helped me realize that I might have a few thing I might want to change. For example, some people suggested to do it again in different colors. It also helped me see how people were reacting to my art and see how people felt when they saw it.
Project Reflection:
This picture is a picture of my dad and it means a lot to me so I decided to make a stencil of it because I thought I could make a cool art project out of it. I really enjoyed having the freedom throughout this project because even though we had some guidelines the freedom allowed us to express ourselves however we wanted through our art. I have gained many skills through this whole project including how to spray paint and just the process of making a stencil which could be very useful and cool to know in the future.

Scale and proportion - landscapesReflection:
Scale and proportion in art are both about size. Scale refers to the size of an object in relationship to another object. The background of an image is the sky or something in the back, the middle ground is in front of the background but behind the foreground which is in the very front. There are many tools in photoshop that can help with combining pictures like this. You can use the lasso tool or the pen tool or so many others. JPEG and PSD are two file formats that are used with images. The main difference between JPEG and PSD is the applications they are connected to. JPEG is actually a standard format that is not tied to any application where as PSD is connected to photoshop. Normal files will have separate formats like .pdf, .doc, .wav. A zip files is a compressed file. The purpose of zipping or compressing a file or files is to make the size of the file decrease or shrink. To see the contents of a zip file you must unzip it first. |
Photoshop TutorialsReflection:
For the first one (the bear) I used a paintbrush in photoshop and put it to a light setting and colored the hair. Then I zoomed in up close and changed the eye color to green. For the picture of the people I warped their noses, chins, teeth, as well as chnaged their hair color and eye color. |
Art History - Art as communicationReflection:
Do you feel you met or approached the project rationale? I definitely think that I got the opportunity to understand the power of visual art and how to promote understanding of the world around us. During the lecture when we saw the difference between “animals facing left” and “water worn pebble” I realized what humans were trying to do, communicate and replicate through art. What is considered art? Art can be a lot of different things. In my mind art is anything that everyone can understand no matter the language you speak or where they live. It is something that gives you a feeling, any feeling. How does context affect works of art? Context affects works of art because without context the artist can sometimes seem like they didn’t have any intention when they were creating their art. It can seem as if the art is meaningless without context. Why would context matter when interpreting art? When interpreting art a lot of feelings can arise. Without context you can interpret a completely not meant for meaning, and you don’t get what the artist meant for you to get out of it. |
Letter PortraitReflection:
To begin the process of this project I went outside and tried to use my imagination to find objects that could spell my name. After that I downloaded all the pictures onto photoshop and started to cut and crop and put all of the together. I feathered the edges of the pictures as well as added a slight filter. Then I added a background and I was finished. |
